Parliament Elects Plamen Georgiev to Head Anti-Corruption Unit

The MPs elected Plamen Georgiev Dimitrov to chair the anti-corruption authority, FOCUS News Agency reports. Plamen Georgiev received support from 148 MPs, 66 voted against him, while 4 abstained.
He was nominated by ruling party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB/GERB). The other candidate, Nikolay Ivanov Nikolov, nominated by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), was supported by 79 MPs, while 62 voted against him and 73 abstained.
As elected chairman, Plamen Georgiev will nominate his deputy and three other members to the anti-corruption commission, who should also be elected by the Parliament.
