The south and southeaster regions of Europe, including Bulgaria, will be affected most by the unfavourable effects of climate change on the continent.

The forecast is for heat waves and droughts to occur mostly in these particular regions.

According to the new report of the European Environment Agency (EEA), these extreme weather events will be most intense and frequent in these parts of Europe. The report of EEA was published on Wednesday.

Climate change is responsible for more frequent and severe floods, storms and heat waves all over Europe. The increase in temperatures on a global level sets new records, the sea level is rising, while ice in the Arctic is melting.

Temperatures hit record-high levels for a third year in a row in 2016.

Climate change-related extreme events have cost the economy of EU member-states losses to the amount of EUR 400 B between 1980 and 2013, and have caused the death of 85,000 people in this period, read the new report.
