At its last meeting, the government of Boyko Borisov approved with a decree the additional funding of BGN 1 B for the national building sanitation programme. Parliament approved the funds last week.

The programme will be operational while there is money and buildings which comply with sanitation conditions.

“Via the implementation of the programme, for the first time, Bulgaria has clear political will for large-scale financing of the measures for energy efficiency in the residential buildings fund because this segment lags significantly behind in terms of levels of energy efficiency, compared to public services buildings. Its territorial distribution is characterised by coverage of the entire country – both in large and in small municipalities, with no restrictions on participation. At the same time, the programme provides for fair distribution of the burden between state and local authorities in the implementation of the national policies on energy efficiency,” stated the announcement of the government press service.

The announcement comes in response to the criticisms of the opposition that the programme is not effective, the repair works are expensive and second-rate and that firms linked to the people in power benefit from these.
