Bulgaria's Govt Allocates Over BGN 22.8 M For Completion of Hemus Highway

The government has allocated an additional BGN 22.88 M as advance financing for the completion of the Hemus highway, reported the press centre of the Council of Ministers.

The completion of the Hemus highway is one of the main priorities in the programme of the government as a key project for the development of northern Bulgaria.

The highway is to connect the capital with the port of Varna which is of great significance in the Black Sea Economic Zone. The route of the highway is part of the European road network from the link with route IV in the west to route IX near Veliko Tarnovo.

The length of the highway is expected to be 420 km. The length of the section that needs to be completed is 250 km.

The project will contribute to the effective modernisation and development of the transport infrastructure and especially the development of the port of Varna.

The completion of the Hemus highway is of great significance for economic and social development since it will stimulate employment and create economic growth via ensuring effective access and improved links within Bulgaria and across its borders.
