There have been no immediate reports of epidemic diseases at the migrant accommondation and reception centr in Harmanli in Southern Bulgaria, a medical official has said.

Among the first 80 migrants examined, only a case of scabies has been registered, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) quotes Sonya Dimitrova, the head of Haskovo's health inspection office, as saying.

A doctor taking part in the examinations has meanwhile told private bTV broadcaster that some residents have chronic diseases, but these include diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, and other long-standing issues.

Most of the 3000 migrants are yet to be subjected to medical examinations after the center was closed, leaving residents grounded at the request of locals, amid rumours and fears spread among them about highly contagious diseases.

Riots followed after the center was closed down, with some of the facilities sustaining damage and 300 inhabitants having been arrested.
