The current Parliament has depleted its mandate to create a new functioning and stable government, Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister in resignation has said.

Lilyana Pavlova has told NOVA TV station that the only feasible option would be to call a snap vote in April.

Her comments follow assurances from President Rosen Plevneliev that an interim government is not yet on the agenda. Plevneliev earlier vowed to try handing over the mandate to several parties and holding a national security council before appointing a caretaker administration and calling an early general election.

Pavlova, however, opines that stability could now be achieved only through "an interim cabinet of experts" appointed by the President and coordinated with his successor, Rumen Radev, who is taking over in January.
