President Rosen Plevneliev will start consultations with the parties represented in Parliament after MPs accepted the resignation of the Borisov Cabinet.

The head of state will hold separate talks with the representatives of the different parties in an attempt to prevent the government crisis from turning into a parliamentary one.

GERB’s representatives will be the first to meet the president. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday morning.

In accordance with the constitution, after Plevneliev concludes the round of consultations with the 8 parties represented in Parliament, he will present GERB (as the largest party in Parliament) with a mandate for the forming of a new government. GERB already announced that they will decline the mandate.

After this, Plevneliev has to hand over the mandate to the second largest group – BSP.

For a third and final time, the president may hand over the mandate to a party of his own choice.

If a government is not formed then, Plevneliev will have to appoint a caretaker cabinet, but he may not dissolve Parliament since there are only 3 months left until the end of his own mandate.
