Bulgaria's Bansko Slowly Recovering after Massive Flood

Authorities are to life the state of emergency in the southwestern Bulgarian ski resort of Bansko on Thursday as the situation is getting back to normal after heavy floods.

Emergency was declared by authorities on Wednesday after the Glazne river overflooded due to the rainfall of the previous 24 hours.

Damages done by the water are yet to be estimated. Thwo bridges, one located in the resort town and the other outside, were washed away. Several restaurants located by the river have also been damaged.

Authorities stand ready to react to a new flood even though the situation is much less tense at the moment, local newspaper Struma reports.

Bansko Mayor Georgi Ikonomov has told Focus Radio that that the situation is getting to normal, with river levels going down and the state of emergency due to be scrapped on Thursday.

The bridges destroyed will be rebuilt, and authorities will work to asses to what extent the ski runs have been affected, Ikonomov has made clear.
