EU Criticises Turkey on State of Democracy

The European Union has made yet another appeal to Turkey on Tuesday to re-start the dialogue with the opposition and conserve democracy, and described the latest events in the country as extremely disturbing, reported BTA, citing Reuters.

In a statement issued by Federica Mogherini High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy an appeal is made to Turkey “to conserve its parliamentary democracy, including human rights, the rule of law, fundamental freedoms and the right of every human being to a fair trial.”

The statement was issued a day before the EU is due to publish its annual evaluation of the progress of Ankara on joining the bloc.
