Presidential Elections: Socialist-Backed Candidate Vows to Defy CETA

The presidential candidate endorsed by Bulgaria's biggest opposition party has said he will refer the EU-Canada trade deal to the Constitutional Court if elected.

The agreement carries risks to Bulgaria's economy, while the benefit, visa-free travel, is too tiny, with visas for Canada being issued easily, Dnevnik.bg quotes Rumen Radev as saying.

The EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed on Sunday, with Bulgaria and Romania due to see visas scrapped in December of next year.

Radev has also said he would expect support from all parties in the runoff, "even from GERB," the party of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov which nominated Tsetska Tsacheva for President, he has said.

Radev and Tsacheva are expected to face each other in the presidential elections' second round on November 06, the race being too close to call according to pollsters.
