The exhibition The Oldest Gold of Humankind presenting a part of the famous Varna treasure will take place in the Dordrecht Museum in Holland from October 28, 2016 to April 28, 2017.

The exhibition includes 1,836 valuable items from the fund of the Varna Archaeological Museum.

The jewels and items alone, made from the oldest processed gold in the world, weigh about one kilogramme and a half, specified Dr Vladimir Slavchev.

Besides the jewels, implements and gold items from the Varna Necropolis (4600-4300 BC), the entire Chalcolithic Age in the Varna region will be presented as well – from the time of the flourishing of the early agricultural community which inhabited the northeast part of the Balkan peninsula.

The exhibition will show the origins of the social structures and the most ancient mechanisms of power which led to social stratification.

A book guide describing this “golden century”, as well as Varna’s subsequent history will be published as well.

The state guarantee for the gold which was transported to Holland by land and air amounts to EUR 40,000.
