Turkish President Recep Erdogan has raised yet again the issue of the Lausanne Peace Treaty of 1923 and its influence on the Turkish state, stating that since the signing of the agreement, the country has found itself in a “vicious circle”.

Erdogan also commented on the topic of the borders of Turkey which shrunk drastically after the signing of the treaty.

“The Ottomans had a state with such deep roots that its collapse caused material and moral wounds to our nation. Our territories, which were 2.5 million sq km in 1914, were reduced to 780,000 sq km with the signing of the Lausanne Treaty.”
