Bulgarian PM Orders Appointment of Border Employees

By order of Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov, the Interior Ministry will launch a procedure for the appointment of employees with labour contracts to assist in border control and the defence of Bulgaria’s frontiers.

The newly-appointed employees will be granted powers to apprehend persons who have violated the border regime and to turn them over to competent authorities.

The employees will have less powers than border policemen. They may use physical force and auxiliary means only when this is absolutely necessary, in case of resistance or an attempt to flee on the part of the detained persons.
