Bulgarian PM: Turkey Must Remain Europe's Strategic Partner

Turkey has to remain a strategic partner of Europe; there is no border police that can deal with several million migrants, stated PM Boyko Borisov at a press conference on the launch of the new EU agency European Border and Coast Guard at the Kapitan Andreevo border cross checkpoint.

“The meeting in Bratislava was of key importance. There, all colleagues from the European Parliament and the European Commissionrealisedthat without quick and effective actions, the trend of talking about the EU will only gain momentum. There is no better place to live, a more successful model than the EU. That is why all flows of migrants are headed towards Europe,” stated Borisov.

“For a few years, Bulgaria fought alone and strictly fulfilled its obligations. The common perception must not be that today’s launch of the agency is directed against Turkey. This must be a sign to everyone who thinks that the agreement with Turkey should not be kept. There are over 3 million people 40-50 kilometres away. There is no border police that can deal with several million migrants, let alone in Europe, where non-governmentalorganisationsfollow our every move. Turkey has to remain our strategic partner,” commented Borisov.

“I know how fashionable it is to speak against Islam, but both Jordan and Libya have to become our partners,” added the PM and emphasised the need for all countries to insist on Russia and the USA finding a way out of the situation in Syria.

“They have to find peace, even the worst kind of peace, so that these people can return there,” concluded Borisov.
