The new border and coast guard agreed by the European Union will be launched on October 06, Thursday.

EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos is set to arrive for the official start which will be announced in Bulgaria.

The new task force is aimed at stemming the flow of migrants into Europe.

The development will take place at Kapitan Andreevo border crossing with Turkey, the external southeastern border of the EU to the southeast.

Some 1500 officers from 19 member states will stand ready as part of the agency and will be available for swift deployment in case there is a sudden rush of migrants.

The EBCG is an upgrade to the current border agency, Frontex, whose ability to curb irregular migration and fight people smuggling has been called into the question by the inflow of migrants last year.

According to the European Commission, the main idea is to "provide support to all member states and be able to identify and intervene to address weakness in advance".
