A court has ruled a two-year suspended sentence for Georgi Iliev, the pizza shop owner found guilty of the death of Yuliyan Georgiev, whose father heads Bulgaria's domestic security and counter-intelligence agency.

The Sofia City Court has found that Iliev failed to give way to Georgiev on April 02, 2014, as the latter was riding a motorcycle.

A collision of the two driver's vehicles followed which left Georgiev dead.

Iliev is also barred from driving for a period of two years and will have to pay court expenses which amount to BGN 4000.

The sentence can be appealed.

Iliev owns a Victoria, a pizza chain which operates in Bulgaria and elsewhere.

However, daily 24 Chasa also reports that cannabis was found in the blood sample of the victim, who was driving at a speed of at least 120 kmh, according to evidence unveiled in the trial.

His father was not chairman of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) at the time.

The crash took place on the major thoroughfare of Simeonovsko shose, in an area not far from central Sofia.
