Bulgaria's new UN chief nominee Kristalina Georgieva has said she is "relentless" and that makes her better placed than Ant?nio Guterres, the fontrunner in the informal votes among UN Security Council members.

The remark follows her video statement in which he accepts the government's nomination.

Georgieva has told Politico: “Guterres says the system is broke, not broken... that with more finances we could fix the problems. But the system is broken, it is broken quite a bit.”

“What I see is an issue of human security today. People are anxious everywhere. Today, our crises overlap. Even the young, educated, urban and wealthy are anxious.”

Politico quotes sources as saying she had to conditions for entering the race, namely the support of several Eastern European governments apart from Bulgaria and assurance there will be no veto from any of the five permanent UN Security Council member states.
