The European Commission has pointed out that the financial assistance of EUR 160 M for Bulgaria, an obligation undertaken by its Chairman Jean-Claude Juncker in Bratislava, is “a matter of days and not weeks,” reported NewEurope.
“By speeding up the processing of the request, we will provide Bulgaria with EUR 108 M for dealing with the migrant flow, and strengthening border surveillance and border control activities,” said a statement of the EC.
“After constructive meetings between the EC and Bulgarian representatives on September 26, the two parties agreed to sign agreements and start the first payments in the nearest future.”
The Commission will also work on the quick evaluation of the further requests of Bulgaria for an additional EUR 52 M.
The Evaluation Commission will meet on September 29.
