Turkey has fired 87 employees of the secret service due to suspected links to the failed coup on July 15.

The officials fired are some of the 141 temporarily dismissed employees which are being investigated. 52 of the employees have been indicted on criminal charges.

Turkey fired thousands of state officials, military staff, policemen, teachers and others after the coup, claiming that it was organised and prepared by the cleric Fethullah Gulen and his supporters.

The intelligence service was criticised severely for not warning the authorities of the threat but this is the first case of lay-offs.
