Bulgarian sprinter Ivet Lalova has missed the Olympic athletics women's 100m semifinal in Rio de Janeiro.

Lalova felt pain due to muscle strain and decided to skip the 100m semifinal to be fit for the 200m series, her favourite distance,
the Bulgarian Olympic Committee announced in a statement on Sunday.

The 200m series will be held on Monday.

"Just before the Olympics I was undergoing treatment for a small injury. Nothing serious, that’s the everyday life of any athlete. In the name of my good performance in my favorite discipline 200m, we decided jointly with the IAAF medical delegate at the
Olympic stadium and my coaching staff not to run in the 100m semifinals," Bulgarian news website dnevnik.bg quoted Lalova as
saying on Facebook.
