Bulgaria will hold presidential elections on 6 November 2016, Parliament decided on Friday.

The date had been proposed by GERB, the dominant partner in the minority coalition government led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. The motion was passed in a 113-14 vote with eight abstentions.

The MPs turned down a motion by main opposition Socialists to hold the elections on October 23. A motion by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), the second largest opposition force in the current Parliament, was also rejected.
