Bulgaria, Yemen to Deepen Business Ties Through Commercial Chamber

Bulgaria will develop its commercial-economic relations with Yemen through the Bulgarian-Yemeni commercial-industrial chamber.

The main areas in which both countries have mutual interest from cooperation are energy, construction and agriculture.

Yemen is one of the world's leading producers of grape, pomegranate and mango as well as sea products. Another well developed sector in the country is tourism.

Since 2005 the greatest exchange of goods between the two countries was recorded in 2008 when it amounted to USD 31.3 M In 2014, Bulgarian exports to Yemen stood at USD 4.5 M.

In 2015, four firms with Yemeni capital were registered in Bulgaria, according to the Yemeni embassy in Sofia.

The chamber will assist organisations by encouraging contacts in trade, investment, access to third markets, realisation of scientific projects, joint participation in infrastructure projects, tour operator, transport and other economic activity.

Among the other activities of the chamber will be cooperation with state bodies responsible for establishing contractual-legal basis stimulating the development of bilateral economic ties.

The chamber will also assist in resolving economic issues, lobbying to ease the contacts between business representatives, helping, encouraging and protecting the interests of its members, developing and incorporating analyses, expertise and proposals.

The chamber foresees meetings between delegations of representatives from both countries. The first events are scheduled to take place in the beginning of September.

Dimitar Beliliev, who has fifteen-year experience in the energy sector, has been selected as chairperson of the chamber's board of directors.
