German President Joachim Gauck will be in Bulgaria between June 22 and 24 to meet state officials and discuss economic relations, the country's embassy to Sofia has said.

Gauck is set to meet with counterpart Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva.

The visiting head of state will also launch a business forum organized by the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry themed "Industry 4.0". He will also visit a plant of copper producer Aurubis, which has in Bulgaria some of its biggest facilities in Europe.

The communist past of Eastern Europe and the way it is perceived by young people will be the focus of Gauck's meetings scheduled with pupils and students.

A trip to the Rila Monastery has also been organized as part of the visit.

Gauck announced earlier in June he would not seek a second term in office next year.
