Bulgaria reports BGN 60 M increase in the revenues collected from the sale of vignette stickers in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2015.

This is largely due to the considerable increase in the price of annual vignettes, which rose from BGN 67 to BGN 97 with the start of the new year.

A written response of Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova to MPs, shows that the total revenues collected from the sale of vignette stickers since the beginning of 2016 amounted to BGN 201 298 244.

A total of 2 176 482 vignettes were sold in the first three months, which represented an increase in their number by 45 000.

The only drop was registered in the sale of annual vignettes, their number decreasing by 10 000. At the same time, the sale of monthly vignettes increased, their number rising from 62 000 to 86 000.

According to Pavlova, the increase in the revenues have allowed the government to allocate additional funds for the reconstruction of roads in northwestern Bulgaria – the poorest region of the country.

In the next several days, the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS) is expected to deliver its ruling on whether to revoke the increase in the price of vignettes.

Last week, the supreme administrative prosecutor's office ruled that the hike does not comply with the legislation.

The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) claims that all normative requirements have been met when the price went up.
