The former President of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, said that his left-wing Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party will not back Prime Minister Boyko Borisov if the latter runs for president in the forthcoming elections in the autumn.

Speaking on Sunday, Parvanov was firm that such option does not exist, private bTV station informs.

ABV used to back the coalition government of Borisov, but withdrew its support in May. In line with the decision of his party, Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Minister Ivaylo Kalfin resigned.

There have speculations that Parvanov might seek a third term as president, with Kalfin being among the other possible presidential candidates of ABV.

Meanwhile, the largest ruling party GERB continues to refrain from revealing the name of its candidate, who is expected to be announced in September.

The party has already decided on its candidate, who is a recognizable figure and as such does not need a long election campaign.

There have been speculations that Borisov might run for president, but he has repeatedly dismissed such rumours.

Incumbent Rosen Plevneliev said in May that he will not seek a reelection to a second term.
