Bulgaria Had 72.6 Hospital Beds, 40.6 Physicians per 10,000 People in 2015

There were 726 hospital beds per 100,000 persons on average in Bulgaria at the end of last year, the country’s statistical office NSI announced on Friday citing preliminary data.

That number varied widely across regions – from 936.5 hospital beds per 100,000 people in Plovdiv Region and 856.6 in Smolyan Region to 380.2 in Pernik Region and 339.2 in Yambol Region.

There were 348 hospitals with a total of 51,933 beds in them in Bulgaria last year. The number of beds edged up by 0.8% on the year, while the number of hospitals remained unchanged.

The average number of physicians per 10,000 people was 40.6 at the end of 2015, up from 40.0 a year earlier. There were 10.5 dentists per 10,000 people in Bulgaria at the end of last year, an increase compared with 9.7 in 2014.

The number of physicians per 10,000 people varied from 26.2 in Razgrad Region to 54.6 in Pleven Region with the highest numbers recorded in the districts with medical universities and university clinics.

The average number of general practitioners per 10,000 persons of the total population was 6.2 at the end of last year.
