Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova has made clear her country is only ready to pursue the development of new nuclear capacities on certain conditions.

At an international energy conference in Varna, she has pointed out the state cannot be involved as an investor as it is seeking to keep public finance in good shape.

Petkova has added a future expansion of capacities should not be to the detriment of other plans such the extension of life of units 5 and 6 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, according to daily 24 Chasa.

Bulgaria had been seeking to build a new unit - No 7 - at Kozloduy NPP, with Westinghouse Electric Company picked fo the task, until Prime Minister Boyko Borisov announced the state cannot enter the project as a strategic investor as the intial plan envisaged. Last year he urged the company to return to Bulgaria, complying with the government's new demands.

For the first time the annual forum is being attended by delegations from Iran and Egypt.
