Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev on Tuesday said his country is ready to take part in a multinational NATO land brigade based in Romania.

His comments came after a meeting with Romanian counterpart Mihnea Motoc on the sidelines of talks bringing NATO defense ministers together in Brussels.

Public broadcaster BNR quotes him as saying Sofia could deploy 400 people for training and joint exercises. A standard NATO brigade usually varies between 3200 and 5500 people, but the size of the one in question will depend on how many troops other alliance members are ready to send.

"Together with my Romanian counterpart we are reached the conviction that a more tangible presence of NATO is needed in the Black Sea region. We have a common concept and will probably bring the issue forward in a joint manner at the Warsaw summit," Nenchev added.

The 2016 Warsaw Summit has been scheduled for June 08-09, with a main focus on alliance bases in Central Europe.

Separately, the ministerial meeting in Brussels ended with participants formally approving the deployment of four batallions, consisting of a total of 4000 people, to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
