Tsvetelina Stoyanova, member of the Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics team, has been admitted to hospital with severe injuries following a fall from the sixth floor of a residential building in Sofia, public TV broadcaster BNT reported on Tuesday.

The coach of the Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics team, Ina Ananieva, said earlier on Tuesday that Stoyanova wasn’t leaving for the European Championships in Israel because she had a ‘health problem’.

“Tsvetelina Stoyanova has a health problem which has deepened since the World Cup competition in Spain; therefore she will be unable to take part in this European Championship,” Ananieva said.

Pirogov Emergency Hospital in Sofia have confirmed to BNT that they admitted a girl with traumatic injuries resulting from a fall but declined to give the girl’s name.

According to Sofia-based bTV broadcaster, Stoyanova, 21, was admitted to the emergency hospital around noon and underwent a two-hour surgery but her life remains in danger. Police have confirmed the incident, stating that the initial inspection revealed no signs of violence.

Guadalajara, Spain hosted a stage of World Cup Series from June 3 to 5. The 32nd European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Holon, Israel from 17 to 19.
