Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov accepted the resignation submitted by Deputy Transport Minister Anton Ginev earlier on Tuesday.

In his letter of resignation, Ginev has motivated his resignation with personal reasons, the government's press service informs.

Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski expressed regret and thanked Ginev for their joint work and his professional expertise.

This development comes shortly after Sofia city prosecutor's office charged Ginev with intentional maladministration.

Ginev is suspected that during his term of office as executive director of the National Railway Infrastructure Company he had mismanaged the company which had caused damages amounting to nearly BGN 927 000.

He was appointed as director of the company in 2006. In 2007, he signed an agreement for the renovation of the passengers railway station in Ruse without launching a public procurement procedure.

Instead of launching a public procurement procedure, which had been required for the BGN 3.12 M renovation, Ginev invited three firms.

A firm controlled by MP Iliya Iliev, who is also being investigated by the prosecution, was selected as contractor, while the other two firms were not admitted to the selection due to problems with their documents.

Within ten days of signing the contract, Ginev ordered the payment of BGN 927 000 to the contractor in advance without the firm having carried out any work.
