Centre-right GERB party, the dominant partner in Bulgaria’s minority coalition government, has retained its lead in public opinion polls about a year and a half after coming to power, a new survey by Exacta Research Group has said.

According to the nationally representative survey conducted by the Sofia-based polling agency May 25-31 among 1,000 respondents, GERB had 26.5% support among voters.

Main opposition Socialists came second with 15.4%, followed by right-wing Reformist Bloc, the junior partner in the government coalition, with 5.6%.

The predominantly ethnic Turk Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) was backed by 5.4% of those surveyed. Nationalist Patriotic Front , which supports the minority coalition government of GERB and the Reformist Bloc in Parliament but has no cabinet ministers, was backed by 4.5% of the respondents.

Exacta noted on Wednesday that most political parties have largely retained the levels of support among voters which they had in the general election held in October 2014.

The coalition government led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will serve its four-year term of office according to 58% of those polled. Early parliamentary elections are a likely possibility for 20% of respondents.
