A court has handed a 12-year sentence to a Bulgarian national after finding him guilty of stealing ATM data in Bali, Indonesia.

The court has ruled that Dimitar Nikolov Iliev accessed computer data illegally by brearking into a security system, according to the Jakarta Post.

Iliev is also to pay the equivalent of Us 7 389 or serve six additional months of imprisonment.

The newspaper also writes that the sentence "was made lighter as the suspect confessed to his crime and was well-behaved during the hearing."

On December 07, 2014, together with another Bulgarian national, Andrey Kolev, broke a padlock behind the ATM machine and replaced the original keypad canopy with another equipped with a camera that recorded customers as they were entering their PINs.

The total amount of money lost by ATM users is not mentioned.
