Sweden’s Assa Abloy Acquires Bulgarian-Based Locking Systems Maker Mauer

Sweden’s Assa Abloy, a global door opening solutions provider, has acquired Mauer, a leading manufacturer of cylinders and locks and supplier of locking products in Bulgaria, for an undisclosed sum.

“The acquisition of Mauer delivers on our strategy to grow our presence in emerging markets", Assa Abloy President and CEO, Johan Molin, said in a statement posted on the group’s website on Thursday.

Tzachi Wiesenfeld, Executive Vice President of Assa Abloy and Head of the grop’s EMEA division, added: “Mauer is an innovative business, especially in relation to cylinders, with a strong track record and a leading position in the Bulgarian market.

Mauer, established in 1989, now has some 200 employees. It has been founded under the brand name Dekaba and its main activity is the development, production and trading of high security products.

Today, Mauer Locking Systems is a Bulgarian-German-Dutch company, with production facilities based in Varna, Bulgaria and assembling business, based in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. The company has sales offices in Sofia, Plovdiv and Pleven in Bulgaria.

Assa Abloy was formed in 1994 through the merger of Assa in Sweden and Abloy in Finland. Since then Assa Abloy has grown from a regional company to an international group with more than 46,000 employees.
