Heavy Traffic Expected Across Bulgaria as Holiday Period Comes to End

Heavy traffic is expected on Bulgaria’s motorways and main roads as the holiday period is coming to an end on Sunday.

A lot of Bulgarians opted for a long holiday between Easter and Saint George’s day, merging the two holidays which were celebrated respectively on May 1 and 6. People used the long holiday to embark on trips in the country and abroad.

Intensive traffic is expected at the entrances of Sofia, on Trakia, Hemus and Struma motorways, on the I-1 (E-79) road between Kulata checkpoint at the border with Greece and Sofia.

In order to ease traffic, the movement of trucks weighing above twelve tonnes is restricted on the motorways and the busiest roads between 14 and 20 o’clock on Sunday.

Two lanes have been provided for vehicles entering Sofia from the I-1 (E-79) road between 10 and 20 o’clock (EET). The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) reminds that Lyulin motorway can be used as an alternative route.
