A Bulgarian court has sentenced two Polish citizens to six year in prison and fines of BGN 200,000 (EUR 100,000) each for heroin trafficking.

Pawel Zimorek Zbigniew and Pawel Kubicki have pleaded guilty to illegal possession and trafficking of almost 20 kg of heroin across Bulgaria’s territory, the country’s Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Bulgarian customs officers at Vidin checkpoint, on the border with Romania, detained the two Polish citizens upon exiting Bulgaria in December 2015 after discovering the heroin hidden in their Polish-registered Mitsubishi Grandis passenger car .

The investigation found that the two offenders had carried the drug from Burgas, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, to Vidin, on the Danube River, according to the statement.
