Six people charged with smuggled migrants crossing into Serbia from Bulgaira are set to appear before a Serbian court, local media outlets report.

The defendants allegedly helped over 200 migrants make it through the Bulgarian-Serbian border before being caught, asking for EUR 1000 to lead a single person into Serbia.

They were detained in a special police operation last year while smuggling people from an area near the Bulgarian village of Treklyano, in the country's southeast.

They are facing fines, suspended sentences or imprisonment of up to 3 years.
