The district military prosecutor’s office in Sofia has charged Venislav Tsanov, director of the Defence Acquision Directorate of Bulgaria's Defence Ministry, with malfeasance in office.

Tsanov is accused of not fulfilling his official duties while conducting a public tender for the supply of military clothing, which resulted in the ministry suffering financial harms amounting to nearly BGN 260 000.

The director did not issue a decision to announce the ranking of the participants in the tender and did not conclude a contract with the company offering the lowest bid, but instead selected another bidder with less favourable terms and conditions.

Tsanov has been released on BGN 5000 bail, with the investigation still ongoing.
