Overnights in Bulgarian Hotels Increase in February

The number of overnights spent in Bulgarian hotels and other short-stay accommodation facilities has increased by 16.8% year-on-year in February, reaching 903,500 and boosting the occupancy rate.
The total revenue from overnights increased by 16.2%, reaching BGN 42.8 M (EUR 21.9), the country’s statistical office NSI said in a statement on Monday.
The revenues from both overnights spent by foreign nationals rose by 18.7%, while the revenues from Bulgarian citizens were 13.9% higher.
The increase in overnights came against the backdrop of a 5.9% fall year-on-year in the number of accommodation facilities operating in Bulgaria in February and the number of beds in them (-1.9%).
In February 2016, 1 875 accommodation facilities each with 10 beds or more operated in Bulgaria. The total number of the rooms in them was 54,700 and the number of beds 110,800.
Four- and five-star hotels accounted for 73.7% of all overnights spent by foreign visitors and 37.1% of all overnight spent by Bulgarian residents in February.
The occupancy rate at Bulgarian accommodation facilities was 28.8% in February, an increase of 4.0 percentage points compared to the same month last year. Four- and five-star hotels had occupancy rate of 44%, followed by three-star accommodation facilities (25.3%), and two- and one-star facilities (17.7%), the NSI said.
