President Rosen Plevneliev has scheduled a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security for next week, his press office has said.

Cybersecurity will top the meeting's agenda, with a report prepared by security bodies on building a system to resist cyberattacks to be read out and discussed.

The issue has taken a special role for the President since the hack attacks that hit a number of Bulgarian institutional websites amid a national referendum on the introduction of remote online voting.

Plevneliev backs e-voting (and was the proponent of the referendum back in 2014), but his critics say the country is not prepared to withstand a massive cyberattack, let alone guarantee the new way to cast a ballot is safe.
