Bulgaria’s project for building a natural gas hub on its Black Sea coast is expected to be finalized in a month and a half, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev has said.

The project is being drafted together with the European Commission in great detail from a technical, legal and economic point of view in order to make sure that the development model will be sustainable and there will be no risk of an infringement procedure to be launched over it, Donchev said at a meeting with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sofia on Friday, according to BTA news agency.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov proposed the gas hub, to be built near the city of Varna, days after Russia abandoned  the Gazprom-led South Stream pipeline project over objections from the European Commission.

Gas could be fed into the proposed regional distribution centre by Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan as well as from Bulgarian and Romanian deposits.
