The chief executive of one of the biggest state-supported tech projects of Bulgaria, the Sofia Tech Park, has stepped down.

Panayotova's term in office is to expire in 2020. She has headed the project since it was launched in 2012.

Daily Dnevnik quotes her as saying that she deposited her resignation last week and that she failed to understand the government's decision to appoint a second executive officer.

The company's board was reshuffled at its latest session earlier in March, an inquiry in the Commerce Register shows. A new executive officer was appointed to represent it with Panayotova, the two jointly together and each separately, but documents show Panayotova herself was not present during the changes.

Often described a a step toward a knowledge-based economy, Sofia Tech Park was built with Bulgarian funding, EU money, and private investment to give a boot to research and development activity and improve links between education and businesses. It was opened last year.
