Turkish police have shot dead two women who attacked a police station in Istanbul’s Bayrampasa district with guns and hand grenades, Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.
Two police officers have been injured in the attack and the follow-up operation for the arrest of the attackers. Police sources have told the Turkish news agency that the attackers were members of Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).
The far-left group is listed as terrorist organisation by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
A woman suspected of taking part in a gun attack on the U.S. consulate in Istanbul in August 2015 had been identified as a member of DHKP-C. The Marxist group had carried out attacks in Turkey in the past, including claiming responsibility for a 2013 suicide attack on the U.S. embassy in Ankara.
