Bulgaria offers "huge" investment opportunities to Israeli businesses, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

Borisov is on a visit to Israel and is set to meet officials later on Thursday.

Agriculture, the defense industry, telecommunications and electronics are only a few of the areas where much potential is yet to be tapped on, Focus News Agency quotes him as adding at a meeting with the Bulgarian community. He also paid a visit to Ramalla to meet officials of the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday.

"Come and the whole region is at yord diposal to work there," he has also urged investors, noting Bulgaria is an appropriate place to set up logistics hubs.

In his words, relations between Bulgaria and Israel are "more than friendly".

A ministerial delegation is accompanying Borisov that includes Deputy PM for economic development Tomislav Donchev and Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov.

"Following the breakdown of Israeli-Turkish ties after the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident, Israel grew closer to all of Turkey’s historic rivals, including Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania," the Jerusalem Post has noted, also citing "a government official" saying Borisov "is perceived as a friend who often comes to Israel's support inside the EU."
