Bulgaria PM Orders 'Full Inspection' of Tenders at Ministries

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has ordered that all public procurement procedures launched by ministries should come under scrutiny.

The transcript of a cabinet session held on Wednesday, hours before he heads to Israel for an official visit, quotes him as saying that inspectorates at the respective ministries should look into all tenders and inform him of any irregularity they notice.

"I won't allow for the state to be destabilized because of the financial interests of this or that person," Borisov is quoted as warning.

The latest development follows a week of cancelled tenders, with the Prime Minister scrapping a number of procurement procedures on suspicions of opacity.

Earlier this week, Borisov also dismissed the head of Bulgaria's refugee agency, Nikola Kazakov, after a report of a TV station showing the agency procures food for people it has accommodated at its centers without a tender and at inflated prices.
