The officers uncovered the migrants when they stopped a Ford Transit van bearing British licence plates for inspection at the bridge over Karaagach river.

The group was made up of ten men, thirteen women and fourteen children, with none of them in the possession of identity documents.

The driver of the vehicle, a 47-year-old Bulgarian man, was detained for 24 hours and charged with smuggling.

The foreigners, who claimed to be Iraqi citizens, were handed to the migration unit of the regional department of the interior ministry in Burgas for establishment of their identity.
