Bulgaria's Parliament Appoints Judicial Inspectors

Lawmakers have appointed all ten members of Bulgaria's Chief Judicial Inspectorate, an institution that under recent constitutional amendments is to have enforced powers in the government's fight against corruption.
 
Of them, five were proposed by the main governing GERB party. All but one of the other political organizations - the Reformist Bloc and ABV (both in the government), the Patriotic Front which backs the cabinet, and opposition BSP and DPS party - put forward one name each.

Far-right Ataka party was the only one that did not submit a name.

The list includes five judges, three prosecutors and two investigators, despite calls from the current Chief Inspector that more judges should be appointed.

Last spring, Teodora Tochkova was appointed Chief Judicial Inspector, after the office had remained vacant since October of 2013, with MPs failing to agree on any name after the resignation of Ana Karaivanova.
