New US Ambassador to Bulgaria Arrives in Sofia

The new US ambassador to Bulgaria, Eric Rubin, arrived in Sofia on Wednesday with his wife Nicole Simmons.

One of his first tasks was to greet the followers of the embassy's Twitter account.

Rubin also appeared in a short video, greeting the Bulgarian people and expressing his desire to work towards a strong and productive partnership between Bulgaria and the United States.

He is looking forward to visiting all corners of the country and getting familiar with the Bulgarian traditions and culture.

The ambassador is a career members of the Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor, the press service of the embassy informs.

Most recently, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, a position he held between 2011 and 2015.

Prior to that, Rubin served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US embassy in Mexico (2008-2011), Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (2006-2008), Director of the Office of Policy and Coordination (2004-2006).

Previously, heĀ  was Consul General and Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai, Thailand (2001-2004), Resident Associate at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University (1999-2000) and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (1998-1999).

He also served as Assistant White House Press Secretary for Foreign Affairs and National Security Council Director for Public Affairs (1997-1998), Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs from (1996-1997), and Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv (1994-1996)

Rubin received a B.A. from Yale University.
