Lawmakers in Bulgaria are set to hold a debate on the first motion of no confidence against the coalition government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on Wednesday.

The motion was sumbitted last week over the healthcare policies of the cabinet. It was introduced by 69 lawmakers, which includes the two biggest opposition parties - the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), and two independent MPs.

The opposition says it hopes the censure motion will improve healthcare policies after debates have taken place, even if a majority of lawmakers do not support it with their vote later this week.

At least 121 MPs are needed to back the motion, the opposition being able to garner 98 votes.
