The Sofia City Court has dropped a money laundering probe against Hristo Biserov, the ex-Deputy Speaker of Bulgaria's Parliament.

The decision has been taken more than a month after Biserov made use of his right and asked for the probe into money laundering against him to be suspended or referred to court, citing a two-year deadline in which the prosecution had to either submit an indictment or and the pretrial proceedings. The prosecution had three months to announce a decision.

The court has received a notice from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, dated February 03, 2016, asking for the proceedings to be dropped.

In December, the Sofia City Court acquitted Biserov of all three charges against him at the time, which included tax evasion, undeclared currency deals and undeclared bank accounts held in Switzerland, but not money laundering..

To add money laundering to the charges, the prosecution needed information on his Swiss bank accounts, but Swiss authorities rejected its request.
