The 2015 vignette stickers for vehicles are no longer valid in Bulgaria as of Monday, February 01, authorities say.

Vignette stickers are mandatory for drivers using Bulgaria's motorways. They can be puchased from gas stations, post offices, retail chains, border crossings, and elsewhere.

Late last year, prices of stickers were raised, with weekly ones now costing BGN 15, monthly ones BGN 30 and those for the entire year at BGN 97 (up from BGN 67 last year).

The decision drew anger from some drivers who argued the nearly twofold increase was outrageous, while the government replied it needs the funding for road maintenance.
